The magazine “Kerrang” has a nice simple contents page which is shown to be neat and tidy and easily tells the reader what to expect to read when buying the magazine. The contents page uses a good amount of pictures and doesn’t over crowd the contents page, these photos have been constructed in separate boxes emphasising to the reader each individual photo, they have constructed the images by placing them in squares to make them stand out, adding to this effect there are 8 smaller images framing a larger image, from this we can assume the larger image is the main sell line. The colour scheme of the contents page is similar to the front cover this corresponds well and won’t confuse the reader with overloading the magazine with different colours. The colour scheme is black, yellow, red, white and grey. The audience for this magazine is around 14+ as the magazine uses strong language and has a mixture of young and old generation of music.Kerrang has used images the Contents Page; they have constructed the images by placing them in squares to make them stand out, adding to this effect there are 8 smaller images framing a larger image, from this we can assume the larger image is the main sell line.
The font styles used are quite bold, the use of the colour yellow corresponds well in showing the reader what things to look at within the magazine, the yellow highlights the page numbers and the title “contents” is written in yellow also making it stand out. The photos are also all of equal size apart from the main large photograph which emphasises to the reader to go to the relevant page relating to that photo, this is a good feature to have in a contents page as it draws the reader into wanting to buy the magazine and find out more. The colours and font styles on the contents page are similar to the one on the front cover, when there is smaller writing the colours and font is the same as when there is big writing the front cover and contents page use the same style writing for emphasises main features within the magazine and the strap lines and teasers.
Promotional features on the contents page is at the bottom right hand side
They have stated get kerrang delivered to your door. They also tempt the reader to want to do this by stating “get a discount”. Another promotion they have on the contents page is “poster special” this will entice the reader to want to have this magazine for its additional features of giving something to the reader.
The contents page has a small portrait size photo of the front cover in the corner this emphasises the logo and the magazine itself. The logo on the contents page isn’t very dominant on the page as doesn’t want to over load the reader in continuously reminding them of the logo.
The overall contents page relates well with the front cover as corresponds well with the use of pictures and the style writing along with the colour scheme. It is constructed neatly and is easy to understand.
We can assume that the overall style of the magazine is a Rock Magazine just from the images used and its intended audience is around the ages 14+ as the magazine use’s harsh language and the age limit to get into gigs of this genre is 14+.
